Nagi departs...

good bye to Nagi who has moved to the other side of the country.
We do, however, have great hopes that he will set up his own Savate
group soon. Best wishes from everyone!
European Savate
Championships - 29th Sept to 2nd Oct 2005
The Great Britain Savate Federation sent a team of 7 fighters,
3 officials and 2 coaches to Paris for the European Championships.
15 countries took part with teams from France and Italy dominating
the medals table. Academy Instructor, Julie Gabriel competed in
the 52 to 56kg category finishing in 4th place overall, after
tough fights against Italian, French and German opponents. Jasbir
Nagi took part in his first international event as an official,
and Tim Webb joined Charlie Howes (Guildford) as a coach. Two
ex-Cambridge representatives were Laura Gilbert (now Oxford) who
came in 4th in the 56 to 60 kg category and James Southwood (now
London) who fought well against strong opponents in the 76 to
82 kg category. Anyone interested in seeing pictures of the trip
should join the "Savate - Boxe Francaise" forum at Care2.com
Summer 2005
annual trip
to the coast
This year only seven members made it up to Cley on the north norfolk
coast. It seems
the rest of you were put off by the howling gales off the north
sea. But, we had a great
day including visiting the wind turbine at Swaffham, "swimming"
in the sea (actually a
giant washing machine!), bacon rolls in arkwrights', seaside walk
and fish & chips to finish.

we were all
swept off our feet (again) after this picture was taken!

Self-Defence with a Flashlight - Monday 8th August
Ollie ran a special training session on self-defence with a flashlight,
including:
how to stand and move; how to deliver strikes to vulnerable target
points; and, how
to escape and counter locks and holds. Although the emphasis was
on how to use
a flashlight to defend oneself, members were shown how techniques
could be
applied with other hand-held objects - or with the empty-hands
alone. Any
members interested in private/small group training in self-defence
should email Ollie
Congratulations
to:
Jon and Clare West on the birth of their son, Jacob Nathaniel,
who was born on 15th July weighing in at 9 lb

category, and Soren Demin came in a creditable 4th in the men's
under 76 kg category. Tom Handley, Geoff Cunningham, Jenny Anikina
and Holly Scott-Mason also fought well against strong opponents.
Rachel Shore and Dominic Tsui of the University of London completed
the team, with Rachel gaining a bronze medal in the 60 to 65 kg
category. Anyone interested in seeing pictures of the trip should
join the "Savate - Boxe Francaise" forum at Care2.com
