There have been
many styles of stick-fighting in England over the centuries,
ranging from the short weapon styles of cudgelling, backsword
and single-stick through to the longer weapon styles of quarterstaff.
The English have fought with sticks in self-defence, as a safer
form of training for the sabre and, sometimes, for prizes.
